Frequently asked questions
How much does NextStep With Summer cost?
$12.99 per month, or $29.99 for 3 months (about $10/month, roughly 23% less than paying monthly). Every new subscription starts with a 7-day free trial. You can cancel anytime from the "Manage billing & subscription" link in the app.
How does the free trial work?
New subscribers get 7 days of full access before any charge. If you cancel before the 7 days are up, you won't be charged anything. If you don't cancel, your card is charged for the plan you picked once the trial ends. The free trial is a one-time offer per family — canceling and resubscribing later won't start a new trial.
What grades is this for?
1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders — content is banded to your child's current grade.
What subjects are covered?
Five subjects: Math, Reading, Social Studies, Science, and Arts & Humanities. Each is its own island with 8 stops that follow the school year. There are also 9 games across every subject, Fact World, and 76 illustrated storybooks (19 per grade, including classic tales).
How much time does my child need each day?
About 15 minutes at a time is plenty. Each mission is one short island stop or a quick game, and playing at least once a week keeps your child's streak going.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. Canceling stops future billing, and access continues through the end of the period you already paid for. There's no long-term contract.
Do you offer refunds?
Payments are non-refundable except where required by law, including for partial periods or unused time after cancellation. See our Terms of Service for details.
Is my child's information safe?
Accounts are created and managed by parents, not children. We don't show ads to kids, don't sell data, and don't let children chat with anyone outside their own family. See our Privacy Policy for the full details.
Does NextStep Summer work in Spanish?
Yes. The whole app and every island lesson in all five subjects is available in Spanish. Just choose it during setup, or change it later in the Parent Zone. The 76 storybooks and Fact World trivia are currently in English only.
What if my child is between grade levels?
During setup you pick the grade your child is in right now, and every lesson is matched to it. You can change it any time in the Parent Zone, which is protected by a grown-up PIN.
Can I add more than one child?
Right now, each account supports one child profile. If you have more than one child, you'll need a separate account (and subscription) for each — we're aware this isn't ideal for larger families and may revisit it.
What is the Parent Zone?
A PIN-protected area just for grown-ups. You create a 4-digit PIN during setup. Inside you can see your child's progress report, change their grade, language, and favorite subject, and manage billing. Your child plays without needing the PIN.
Who is Summer?
Summer is the friendly toucan who guides your child through every island, cheers them on, and gives them hints along the way.
What devices does it work on?
NextStep With Summer runs in your web browser, so there's nothing to download. It works on phones, tablets, and computers.
